Tuesday's Troubles

Mommy bought us a new littermaid from BJs. It was on sale for just 79 dollars and it came with the tent, 12 poo containers and lids, extra mat, air fresh unit, a little brush, scooper and ramp!!
BUT.........it broke down in just over 2 weeks!!!#*!<: ( >?*#!!! Boy was Mommy upset......this was our third auto pan!!! The first was a littermaid elite. The sides were to low, it dumped the litter all over and under the place and the litter stuck on the s.s. teeth! Anyway, after a few months it burned out. Our beans figured it was because the switch was on top of the back in a well and being we are all boyz....of course pee spurted there but it only started after Ty began using it! Then Mommy went cat pan shopping AGAIN and bought us a Petmate which lasted over a year!! Then it started making a squealing noise and we were afraid to use it. Mom found pieces of the rubber belt under the wheel on the side, took a photo and we are still waiting to get an answer on that one. When Mommy saw this Littermaid model, with high sides and the switch on the side, AND the bar with thick plastic teeth goes up and flat before dumping, to sift the good litter through, well she thought it would be perfect!!!! She ordered another online since the store was sold out. Then after she got the email it was on it's way.............trouble!............figures doesn't it!
Finally, Dad took the first one all apart and used a meter to try and find the problem. We had to know what went wrong before setting up the new pan that just arrived.
Problem found! The pee seeped through the battery lid or the on button light, fell onto the circuit board so it just shut down as the bar came to the front. It stopped us from entering our pan so we were glad Mommy checks it several times a day!! Mommy said if anyone has only female kitties it will work great. You would think that Littermaid, after getting many, many complaints, would have fixed this themselves. Mommy has sent them emails and has called but can't understand the operators answering because they are in another country!!!! More jobs lost to other countries!!!!
Soooo, Mommy cut one of the liners from the previous Petmate auto cat pan, fit it to the back to cover the problem area. It has been peed on however not a drop has hit the troubled zone!
Mommy used double stick velcro under the plastic to hold the cover. Since it is made of sturdy plastic it should hold up for quite some time. She cleans the cover with scented hand sanitizer which seems to stop Ty from peeing on it!! Mom said the next cover will fit better because this was the first try...she won't need that silver tape because she will cut a flaps. YEAH, Paw pats from all of us Mom & Dad!

Awesome idea about the custom cover!!! Sorry you guys have had so much trouble with your automatic litter boxes. We've never had one before.

That was a funny story to told us about your mom donating food and coming back with kitties!! Hope our mom doesn't get any ideas cause there are seven of us right now!! Since there are so many of us and mom also feeds 2 feral colonies, the extra food will never go to waste. It sure was nice of your mom to donate your food to Save the cats!!
Petfooddirect.com is where our mom gets our foods too, she always goes online looking for a coupon first, silly lady!

Wow! Your mom is really smart to figure out that a cover would do the trick! Maybe the manufacturer could learn something from her!!!

We don't have an auto box...mom's afraid we wouldn't use it and hasn't invested in one.

What an ingenious solution! We would never have been able to figure out the problem, let alone how to solve it.

Dudes, your folks are very smart! Maybe she can sell the "fix" and make lots of green papers.

Your mom must be very smart!!! I don't have one of those automatic litter boxes. They sound nice though...

Wow your Mom and Dad are smart cookies! We want an automatic litter pan but so far Mom hasn't gotten one. She's afraid we will be too hard on it.

Your mom and dad are very ingenious! Mom has avoided buying one of those automatic litter boxes for fear I wouldn't use it.

You have very clever Beans to fix your litterbox. Littermaid should pay them for working on a fix. We only have an ordinary litterbox, but Eric prefers the greenhouse and mum has to go in there 2 or 3 times a week to scoop.

Auto-box. I don't have one of those. I have a giant mud-pan litterbox. We got it when Grady was still here. Perfect size for two big cats. (Sometimes, though, mom hates cleaning it.)

Your Mommy and Dad are very smart! That's a good fix. You'd think the manufacturer would fix this design flaw.
